Now, the University of Calgary Dinos are offering one lucky student a chance at experiencing that terror in a program they are calling the “13th man.”

Playing for the Dinos as a one-time walk-on is fairly simple. The winners are chosen and have to go through practice with the team at a set position given by the coaching staff. Come game time, they are put on the field for one special teams play. From the Dinos’ website:

Two players, Mohammad Ahmed-Khan and Jarrett Henry, have already participated in the contest and blogged about their experiences playing for a college team as a regular ol’ Joe.

“I was very lucky to be able to stay on the sidelines with the team, taking in the whole game from the real front row,” wrote Henry.

Good for the men involved for having an enjoyable time and escaping without the classic crown-to-crown hits from the panicked, aimless aggression I so amiably remember as vital to the kickoffs of my youth.
