While the Panthers were trying to hold off a Seahawks comeback during the NFC divisional round, Newton had to burn his second timeout early in the fourth quarter. He was clearly not happy.

When he walked to the sideline to discuss what happened with his coaches, he let an F-bomb slip. Obviously, he had no idea the microphones would pick it up, but oh yes, they did.

To my very untrained ear, it sounds like Newton says, “I can’t keep my f—ing cool when…” and trails off.

Let’s be clear: Newton is a very polarizing figure in the NFL. Those who like him, love him. Those who dislike him, hate him. When he kept dancing after big plays, an angry mother penned a scathing letter to The Charlotte Observer and the floodgates opened.

The story took off and now whenever Newton does anything — really, anything — his naysayers always make their voice heard. Be it him having a child out of wedlock or the fact he doesn’t put his hand over his heart during the national anthem, the “Letters to the Editor” keep pouring in.

So, to expect that someone, somewhere will have something negative to say about Newton’s potty mouth isn’t a far stretch of the imagination. We can only hope they keep their opinions to themselves. Stop scrutinizing everything this man does.
