The well-kept secret about the 35-year-old, bad-as-he-wants-to-be Chicago Bull is that he’s not very interesting. The most compelling thing about him (besides his rebounding) is his hair. For “World Tour,” Rodman favors electric green, with a mottled pattern that makes it look like a thriving Chia Pet.
To say Rodman doesn’t connect with his guests would be an understatement. He can barely be bothered to make conversation, and does so only at the audible prodding of the show’s producer. To fill these gaping lapses in repartee, Rodman engages his guests in gimmicky distractions, like motorcycling with Jay Leno, tennis with Jon Lovitz or poker with Kelsey Grammer. Periodically, the show cuts away to Rodman sitting half-naked on a couch in some studio, promising how dangerous and unpredictable things are about to get after the commercial break. But somehow they never do.
