To that end, the Washington Capitals — hosting the game in the wrong place, mind you — made a pretty drastic change. A Russian Machine Never Breaks tipster (via Puck Daddy) spotted what is probably the logo in question ahead of Tuesday’s unveiling. It’s the circled ‘W’.

That looks like more of a nod to MLB’s Washington Senators than anything else; it’s certainly not taken out of the Caps’ history. Their current jerseys and logo are an update on their originals, and in between they used a bronze-teal-black scheme.

So, the Caps were in a Catch-22; they could’ve either re-hashed the stuff they were in 2011 at Heinz Field or gone full faux-back, in a way that no Classic participant has before. They seem to have opted for the latter.

Let’s wait until tomorrow to pass full judgment, though. Maybe the Blackhawks can wear some Cub-inspired stuff and bring the whole thing full-circle.
