Feels like much, much further away, though.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny was asked for his thoughts before Sunday’s game against the Padres. “It’s just a sad situation, it’s a tough situation for our city,” he said. “Hopefully all the voices that are trying to get this resolved get it resolved quickly.”
The Cardinals, obviously, are a part of the fabric of the entire St. Louis community. Images from the protests have shown people wearing Cardinals hats and shirts. Michael Brown was wearing a Cardinals cap when he was killed.
Before Thursday’s game, the first of the current homestand, the team spoke about the situation with a pregame announcement. Matheny said he appreciated the sentiment, and like everyone else, he’s just hoping for a peaceful end.
“This is a great city, with a lot of great people,” he said, “and we’d like to see this all get resolved.”
