There are aging alternatives such as John Lackey, Mark Buerhle and Bartolo Colon, and cycling through a partial list of available arms, the report mentions Mike Leake, Jeff Samardzija, Wei-Yin Chen, Scott Kazmir, Ian Kennedy, Mat Latos, Yovani Gallardo and Doug Fister.
And while Mozeliak continues to court very expensive free-agent right fielder Jason Heyward and possibly covets super utilityman Ben Zobrist, whose value clearly is appreciating on the open market, the Cardinals face this reality: There will be no discounts on starting pitching this offseason.
