Our July 17 Harry Potter cover story and book excerpt drew letters from many fans of the young wizard. “This was the first year I had to struggle to get my students to stop reading during math class,” wrote a veteran teacher, praising J. K. Rowling’s phenomenally popular series. An 11-year-old said he felt “a pang of grief” when he finished reading the new Potter book because he missed his friend Harry. Others lauded Rowling fornurturing kids’ imaginations. “Maybe today’s children will not grow up so fast after all,” mused one reader. “With the help of Harry Potter, there could be a new generation content to stay in Never-Never Land just a little bit longer.”
