“We are pleased to welcome Joel Anthony to the organization,” Pistons general manager Jeff Bower said. “Joel is an experienced front court player who adds size, toughness and depth to our frontcourt.  We thank Will Bynum for his contributions and wish him the best in the future.”

The trade is one made based on need, with veteran players being swapped straight up. While we’ve established that the Pistons need a steady guard, the Pistons need a solid backup big man. Anthony will play behind a crowded starting frontcourt that includes Andre Drummond, Greg Monroe and Josh Smith.

Detroit’s bench is light on capable players, however, with Jonas Jerebko and Tony Mitchell as the only reserves returning from last season. Aaron Gray was added from the Toronto Raptors and should provide some minutes, along with Anthony.
