But before the Grey Cup is awarded, there was other hardware that got handed out. The 2022 CFL Awards happened on Thursday night, as a number of honors were given out to some of the league’s top players. 

Among the awards is the Most Outstanding Player Award, and history was be made in Regina. Blue Bombers QB Zach Collaros, one of the two nominees for the award, won the honor once again going back-to-back after winning last season.

2022 CFL Award Winners

The finalists for the 2022 CFL Awards were announced, with one nominee coming from each division. Only one winner was named from the East division as the West division almost completed a clean sweep of the awards.

Winnipeg’s Zach Collaros and Montreal’s Eugene Lewis were the two finalists for Most Outstanding Player yet again, but it was Collaros who won the award for the second straight year, becoming just the fifth player to ever win the award in back-to-back seasons.

Nathan Rourke was named Most Outstanding Canadian. The Victoria-born, Ontario-raised signal caller threw for 3,349 yards and 25 touchdowns while only throwing 10 interceptions.

Rourke has been rumored to be getting some interest from NFL teams after his year with the BC Lions.

Blue Bombers coach Mike O’Shea took home the Coach of the Year award for the second straight season. He led the Bombers to the league’s best record at 15-3 and looks to guide them to a third straight Grey Cup victory on Sunday.

2022 CFL All-Stars

The CFL announced its 2022 All-Stars in the week leading up to the Grey Cup. 

The 27 All-Stars were selected by 47 voters, which include members of the Football Reporters of Canada and the league’s head coaches. There is also the All-Star Fan Vote that plays a factor as well. 

Calgary ended up with the most All-Star selections with eight.
