Sean Smith, who will be activated for this week’s game at Cincinnati after a three-game suspension for a DUI, will take Gaines’ place on the roster and presumably in the secondary.

Immediately after Monday’s game, coach Andy Reid said Gaines’ injury was a sprain but an MRI exam revealed that the ACL was torn.

In three games this season, Gaines had six tackles and no interceptions.
