The Kansas City Police released the following statement on the incident:

It’s unclear just how long police were chasing the suspect, but Kansas City Police spokesperson Jake Becchina told 41 Action News several vehicles were in pursuit “very quickly.” The 41 Action News report states police used stop sticks, which struck the vehicle before executing a PIT maneuver later on.

Police added in their statement, “The driver is under investigation for impairment. A search of the vehicle revealed no weapons, and there were no indications of terrorist activity. Police do not know the suspect’s motive at this time. The parade route is once again secure.”

Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas was quick to praise the officers who acted fast.

“Appreciate the quick action of the [Kansas City Police] ending a chase of a suspected impaired driver at the parade route,” Lucas said on Twitter . “We’ll stay vigilant about the threats like these throughout the day.”
