A study published Monday in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AJOG) reports that women who reported consuming more than 200 milligrams of caffeine a day during the first three months of pregnancy doubled their risk of miscarriage (from the 12 percent average among participants who used no caffeine to 25 percent). The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said the “illegally made jail house alcohol” had been found during a search at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, California on Saturday. Inmates at the jail hid had hundreds of gallons of the alcohol in garbage cans and other hideaway, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The sheriff’s office posted a picture of 25 deputies standing in front of several bags of the confiscated alcohol, which they said was made from fruit and juice, on Instagram....

On Friday morning, an estimated 100,000 residents were evacuated from the endangered areas, according to the Los Angeles Times. The flames began advancing on local communities so quickly that fire and police responders were unable to warn residents before seeking safety themselves. Bauer-Kahan’s bill is a part of an effort to adjust state laws and official forms, according to the Associated Press. She said, “it’s important to do this work.” “We have women serving in our highest offices, and the (sections) of the code referring to them only in the male pronoun was pretty shocking to me....

In a statement on Monday, Governor Newsom said that he would explain the “incremental release of the stay-at-home orders,” adding that California would use “science to guide our decision making, not political pressure.” According to Johns Hopkins University, California has more than 24,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and more than 700 deaths. California issued a stay-at-home order on March 19, closing all non-essential businesses, such as dine-in restaurants, bars and nightclubs, and asking residents to remain inside apart from accessing essential items or services....
