The troops were first deployed after the storming of the U.S. Capitol by a mob of Donald Trump supporters on January 6. Almost 2,300 national guards will now remain deployed to the capital until at least May 23, around half of the 5,100 currently operating around the Capitol building. On Monday, 44-year-old Donald Craighead of Oceanside, California was arrested for possession of prohibited weapons. During a nightly patrol, a special operation division officer found Craighead’s Dodge Dakota pickup truck parked outside of the DNC headquarters. Craighead’s pickup truck had multiple swastikas painted on the rearview mirror and inside of the vehicle, along with the word, “Confederate” spelled out on the dashboard and a pentagram on the steering wheel....

Jeffrey Allsbrooks claimed he forgot that the gun was inside his bag before entering the Longworth House Office Building. According to U.S. Capitol police, stationed officers “spotted an image of a handgun in a bag on the X-ray screen” after he went through security, leading to his arrest four minutes later. Allsbrooks is charged with carrying a pistol without a license. The Capitol police are trying to figure out how Allsbrooks was able to proceed into the building with the gun in his bag....

Experts and government watchdogs say that a 1/6 Commission is necessary to set a definitive record and counter disinformation about the Capitol insurrection, but it could be a tall hurdle to get enough Republicans on board with creating one. “The further we’ve gotten from it, the more both sides have moved into their own narratives on what 1/6 was about,” Laurel Harbridge-Yong, a political science professor at Northwestern University whose research focuses on partisan conflict, told Newsweek....

Fanone was injured during the January 6 Capitol riot. He was on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, in the hope of speaking to the 21 Republican members of the House of Representatives who voted against a bill awarding Congressional Gold Medals to officers who responded to the riot. Clyde is one of them. He told CNN’s Don Lemon that he had seen Clyde, who represents Georgia’s 9th congressional district, waiting for an elevator and he went to speak to the congressman....

On January 5, Munafo allegedly made 143 calls to the Calhoun County 911 line in Michigan. He reportedly identified himself as “Yankee Patriot” and tied up the line for over three hours. The FBI said he threatened to maim, kill and attack the dispatcher and her family unless she connected him to a deputy sheriff or sergeant. Munafo accurately recited the dispatcher’s tax and mortgage information and claimed to know where she lived, the FBI said....
