Protesters were planning to gather on Wednesday morning in Adelanto, California, before traveling across the country to demand that all COVID-related restrictions be lifted nationwide—a transcontinental demonstration inspired by Canadian truckers who completed a similar journey last month and occupied Ottawa for 24 days....

The protest is being led by former Republican Party data analyst Matt Braynard, who has pushed false claims of election fraud during the 2020 presidential election. Braynard has promised to hold the rally no matter how many people attend. “At no point will I cancel this rally,” Braynard told WTOP radio in Washington. “This is happening even if I’m there by myself with a megaphone.” There has been little word on whether others will attend the rally, including the members of Congress allied with Braynard’s cause....

Prosecutors are looking to keep Reffitt in federal custody until his trial because there aren’t any conditions that could keep the public safe. Reffitt allegedly bragged about having a firearm with him during the January 6 riot, threatened his children with their lives if they turned him in and predicted there would be additional violence in the future. “We took the Capital [sic] of the United States of America and we will do it again,” Reffitt wrote to other members of the Texas Three Percenters, a militia movement, according to a prosecutors’ filing....
