Chinese businesses recently moved into Congo in pursuit of cobalt and other rare minerals, the Associated Press reported, but the Chinese Embassy in Kinshasa posted a message on WeChat saying that several of its citizens have been attacked and kidnapped over the past month in the South Kivu, North Kivu and Ituri provinces, where anti-government rebel groups have a presence. No details on the kidnappings were provided in the post, though AP noted that the Embassy reported five Chinese citizens were kidnapped from a mining operation in South Kivu....

While they’re sent out automatically, a person must file their 2020 tax return in order to receive one and it can take up to 60 days to receive a payment. California’s Franchise Tax Board pushed the deadline for filing state tax returns to May 17 to remain consistent with the extension the Internal Revenue Service gave taxpayers....

The early-morning shootout was captured on home security footage, revealing the suspect to be a man who lived only a few doors down in the neighborhood of Hesperia in San Bernardino. Earlier this month, Rivian announced that its first production R1Ts have rolled off the line. The company is the first to bring an electric truck to market. On Thursday, Cal Fire announced on Twitter that they were responding to two new wildfires, including the Pomo Fire and the Park Fire. According to the Cal Fire incident map, the Pomo Fire, which is in Lake County near Pomo Road Cross and Highway 20, Upper Lake, has burned 50 acres and is 42 percent contained. The Park Fire, in Butte County near Upper Park Road and Bidwell Park, northeast of Chico, has burned 600 acres and is 25 percent contained....
