March Mountain High School in Moreno Valley will be re-evaluated on Tuesday after receiving a B rating and score of 89 According to the Department of Environmental Health, food vendors must score at least a 90 to pass. The result came after inspectors found rodent droppings and two dead mice—one underneath a freezer and the other in a room where food is stored. The continuation high school will need to pass re-inspection before it is authorized to serve meals again....

Avid swimmer Lyn Jutronich, 50, had been taking a routine swim at Del Mar Beach, San Diego on November 4 when the attack occurred. Jutronich told ABC 10News that she had been resting in the water when suddenly she felt something huge slam between her legs. She immediately knew it was a shark. “It pushed me, it hurt and it pushed me up and out of the water,” Jutronich told the news outlet....

About 300 students from Chino Hills High School decided to protest after seeing photos of California Gov. The school accommodated the students by opening up the lunch area quad, where they spent Tuesday working on assignments. But some students told the station they were not happy because no one is teaching them and they are receiving less credit for work....

The California Department of Public Health released a report tracking California’s birth outcomes from 2008 to 2016. Maternal deaths within a year of pregnancy reached a low of fewer than 10 per 100,000 live births in 2012. In 2016, it rose to about 14 deaths, slightly behind the national rate of almost 17 deaths. However, the maternal mortality rate for Black women was far higher. From 2014 to 2016, about 56 Black women died per 100,000 live births in California....

Data from Cal Fire shows that the Mosquito Fire, which is located in Placer County, had grown to 64,159 acres as of Thursday morning and is currently 20 percent contained. On Monday morning, the fire had burnt 46,587 acres and by Monday night, Cal Fire officials said the fire had grown to 48,700 acres. While the Mosquito Fire is currently burning in the Northern part of California, the southern part of the state recently saw a wave of extreme weather incidents over the past week....

Newsweek reported last week that much of southern California remains under an excessive heat warning, with the state’s grid operator warning high temperatures could lead to blackouts. A prolonged heat wave has temperatures expected to reach as high as 115 degrees Fahrenheit in some parts, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Concurrently, wildfires threaten various parts of the state. Evacuation warnings are in place for several cities.
